PLEASE CLICK IMAGE TO VIEW - VERY RARE FRENCH 22 BORE MODEL 1849 PATTERN NAVAL BELT PISTOL, DATED 1850- With sighted two-stage barrel retained by a brass barrel-band with extension along the bottom of the fore-end to the trigger-guard, dated octagonal breech stamped with inspector's marks and 'MN', tang with back-sight, extending down the back of the butt and stamped 'Mle 1849', flat back-action lock etched 'Mre. Nle. de Châtellerault', figured half-stock, stamped with various inspector's marks and circular arsenal mark, the latter on one side of the rounded butt, brass mounts stamped with inspector's marks and including rounded pommel-cap with stirrup ramrod secured by chains and regulated belt hook. 17.2 cm. barrel. 305mm total. Some surface discolouration to metal parts, action functions perfectly and the woodwork good with some light surface marks/bruises.  The Pistol de Marine Mle 1849 was an improvement on the models 1837 and 1842 and it's production was extremely limited explaining it's rarity in comparison with it's forerunners. It was replaced in the 'Marine Nationale' by the Revolver 1858 (Lefaucheux) and brought to a close the history of single shot pistols used in the French Navy from the latter half of the 18th Century. sold sold sold
